Ammonium chloride is abbreviated as "ammonium chloride", also known as halogen sand. It is a kind of quick-acting nitrogen chemical fertilizer. Its nitrogen content is 24%-25%, which belongs to physiological acid fertilizer. It is suitable for wheat, rice, maize, rape and other crops, especially for cotton and hemp crops to enhance fiber toughness and tension and improve quality.
Improper use can cause bodily harm. When ammonium chloride is used in medicines, it is not suitable for everyone. When ammonium chloride is used in other products, direct contact can cause poisoning.
Ammonium chloride can irritate skin and mucosa, cause damage to liver and kidney function, induce liver coma, cause azotemia and metabolic acidosis, etc. The application of 50g ammonium chloride in healthy people can cause severe poisoning. In patients with liver disease, nephropathy and chronic heart disease, 5g can cause serious poisoning. (1) As chlorination enters the body, some ammonium ions are rapidly metabolized by the liver to form urea, which is excreted from the urine. Chloride ion combines with hydrogen to form hydrochloric acid to correct alkali poisoning. (2) Because of the chemical stimulation of mucosa, the amount of sputum is increased reflectively, so that the sputum is easily discharged, which is conducive to the removal of a small amount of mucus that is not easy to cough.
Oral ammonium chloride poisoning can cause chemical gastritis. In severe cases, hepatic coma is induced due to the marked increase of blood ammonia. Severe poisoning caused liver and kidney damage, metabolic acidosis, and a large increase in bronchial secretions.
Therefore, when using ammonium chloride, we should be extra careful to avoid direct contact with the skin.
